The lovely Khun Duan moved from her sisters’ restaurant Mai Kai Dee 18 months ago to open her very own a cooking school slash vegan and vegetarian eatery – Morning Glory- where you get to dine on epic veggie dishes or visit the local South Gate market and prepare a recipe of your choosing for 1200 baht per class.

Here in a matter of minutes Khun Duan rustled up a succulent and juicy, slightly spicy vegetarian carrot salad, with optional chilies providing an added kick; lime juice for a touch of sour, brown sugar (not MSG) for the sweet tooth, garlic for its pungent hit and light (not brown) soi sauce for the salty palette.

This blend of spicy, sour, sweet, salty ingredients is typical of how Thai recipes are married together.

One of the few vegan/vegetarian restaurants open after 6pm inside the old city, prices are very reasonable, around the 50 baht mark with decent portion sizes.

You can pretty much pick and choose your ingredients with Khun Duan who speaks good English but the menu is extensive so no doubt you’ll be back for more!

Described on Happycow as “super flavorful”, nestled within its charming lackluster decor, for roughly $5 you can treat yourself to a pineapple and coconut smoothie, a pumpkin curry with wild fried rice and fresh/fried spring rolls all for under 150 baht!
